Rob has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Auckland and in the early part of his career gained experience in NZ, Australia and the UK as a fluid power engineer and mechanical engineer designing HVAC systems and bulk material handling equipment.


Rob first became interested in fire engineering on his return from Australia in 2010 and successfully completed his Masters degree in Fire Engineering in 2016 before becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (Fire) in 2021. In this time he has gained a wide range of experience assisting clients design buildings to comply using Acceptable Solutions, Verification Method and Alternative Solution compliance pathways.  For existing buildings, Rob is especially interested in the storage and use of hazardous substances and employing ‘Alternative Solution’ techniques to demonstrate compliance.

As well as Fire Engineering, Rob specialises in the design of height safety systems, working with most of the country’s leading suppliers and installers of this equipment.

​

Rob also has a passion for ‘Safety In Design’ principles and is the Treasurer and Co-Chair of the New Zealand Society of Safety Engineering, an Engineering NZ Technical Interest Group.

​

Rob has worked for us since 2002, becoming a Principal in 2014 and outside of work is kept busy by his lifestyle block, cats, chickens, goats, sheep and two young children.
