Passive Fire Consulting

Why you need a Passive Fire Consultant for your Project

Having Nelligan Consulting Engineers involved with your project will reduce the risk of extra delays and costs caused by non-compliant work and give you the confidence that your building will be safe for its occupants escaping a fire.

The advancement and increasing regulation of the passive fire protection industry in the past few years has brought new challenges to many building owners and construction industry professionals. Some examples of these challenges are:

  • Passive Fire Protection systems failed during IQP inspections for BWOF renewals.

  • Projects over budget due to poor scoping of the passive fire requirements during the quotation stage

  • Projects failing passive fire inspections due to the lack of a proper passive fire specification and/or installation

  • Projects delayed and over budget due to rectification of non-compliant passive fire systems

  • Projects are not achieving Code Compliance Certificates (CCC) or Certificates for Public Use (CPU) due to the lack of a proper Passive Fire register.

Due to the sheer number of available passive fire protection solutions (from various suppliers) for the uncountable iterations of various services through various substrates in differing orientations, the design and specification of passive fire systems have become a job requiring specialist expertise and considerable knowledge of these systems.

Passive Fire Protection advice during construction

Every construction project has unexpected situations regarding Passive Fire Protection where specialist advice might be required. We can assist you with formulating a compliant, economical solution for your situation.

This advice can be provided as simply as a phone call or a more thorough Consultant Advice Notice (CAN) or Engineering Judgement (EJ), with references to fire report requirements, drawings and attachments as required.

We can also provide independent Third-Party Inspections to ensure the installations performed are compliant with the manufacturer’s requirements and tested solutions.

Our passive fire inspections usually include the following:
