Bob is a Chartered Professional Engineer with Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Commerce, and a Masters Degree in Fire Engineering. He is the founder of Nelligan Consulting Engineers, a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and an Honorary Life Member of ACE New Zealand. His background includes time at sea as a Marine Engineering Officer with the RNZN, Engineering Manager of Hellaby Shortland Export freezing Works, and a Principal of a multi-disciplined International Consulting Engineering Practice.

Bob has decades of experience working with most of the country’s top Law firms, Loss Adjusters and Insurance companies. He has provided expert evidence in a number of significant NZ High Court proceedings including CHH v RR and Genesis, and more recently mediations involving disputes involving passive fire protection of multi-story apartment buildings.

Bob has been a member of the judging panel for the ACENZ annual design awards for over 30 years.
​
Outside working hours he is a keen and ever optimistic golfer, home renovator and car enthusiast. He is also a Trustee of the St Patricks Day Golf Classic, a charity that raises funds for worthy causes.
